In 2006, a friend of mine mentioned in passing that she planned to begin training to learn how to compete in a triathlon. Well, I think the next words out of my mouth shocked the both of us. I said, “Me too!” In that split second I decided to join her and so began my journey.
I’m not sure what I was expecting at the time. I must have believed that TBF could work miracles to train me to be a triathlete. I was never a runner, didn’t know how to swim and thought a bike ride was a fun way to go to the ice cream shop. I had A LOT of work to do. TBF made it fun and I was anxious for every group workout. They were patient with my lack of skills and taught me what I needed to know along the way. It was fun, it was different and it was a lot of work! I found the classes to be motivational and empowering. One of the main messages echoed was, “You can do it!”
In August, 2007, I finished my first triathlon and felt great! Such a sense of accomplishment; such a feeling of strength! In October that same year I finished triathlon #2 and was hooked! I loved the people I encountered and the energy in the air. So Much so, that I decided to take it to the next level and become part of the TBF Key Staff. I got to know the management, staff, volunteers and athletes on a more personal level; some of the most quality folks I know! In May 2011, we traveled together to Thailand for the vacation of a lifetime! I treasure every memory!
Through it all though, I was constantly struggling with my weight and injuries. My fitness level had dropped significantly! “Life” happened to me in a big way and I had difficulty maintaining my motivation to stay fit. My weight was climbing to new heights and I needed to take control! It was clear to me I needed additional help.

This is about the time I ran into Tim Sorensen. At my first appointment, Tim did an assessment and told me where my weaknesses really were and created a complete plan to get me in better shape. We started to work right away and, just like he said, I began losing about 1-2 pounds per week. I could see the transition of my shape in the mirror. My clothes started fitting better and I felt stronger almost immediately.
Fast forward 6 months and I have seen amazing results. I have dropped from a size 14 to a size 6 and have lost 30 pounds. I am not yet at my goal weight but I am on track to reach it at the time that Tim said I would!
I still feel as though I am at the beginning of my journey but here’s what I’ve learned so far. "I can do it."
Now, I'm excited to find out how much more can I do.
